What makes you move?

I’m taking a class called “The Body Everywhere And Here!” taught by Lisa Jamhoury this semester to explore the concept of body as an interface. And first assignment for the class is to create a sketch in JavaScript that encourages the user to use their body in some way, focusing on what it feels like, using the pixel array.

I paired up with Elena, another second year ITP student, for this assignment. We realized while discussing that we have a lot in common in terms of political views since we both came from the countries rules by dictator; me from Thailand and Elena from Russia.

So, for this assignment, we decided to use our political similarities as a concept to create 2 versions of sketch which the user will ‘move’ in order to bring a change to the screen as a conceptual to the people that stand up for themselves and their own country.

Elena continued explore on the hope part while I was focusing more on the suppression side. I came up with idea of using a very loud and annoying sound as a way to force a person to move by using poseNet to track the position of the nose — and to make the sound stop for this sketch, the user will eventually have to stand up.

The sketch is still pretty rough since I couldn’t figure out what kind of visuals I should use to match with this movement, feels, and the concept behind it.

Anyway, here is the link to my p5 sketch : https://editor.p5js.org/Jay_a_n/sketches/VMVY4MItT
