Light and Interactivity week 4 : ITP time-lapse

So I put my first time-lapse at ITP near the pantry by Name and Nok’s help. ( Thanks! : D )

The camera was placed on the southwest side of the building near the pantry during sunset time. The sky was pretty cloudy and the rain was drizzling all day.

It’s kind of interesting since I was expected to see some sunset effects on the floor but it seems like overall brightness and time have not changed much on the floor if you didn’t look out of the windows and just related your time realization with only the floor building lighting.

So I decided to set the cam there over the night to see if there is any different during the sunrise.

I try to cover my hands over the windows in the video to see if there is any different in the light quality or brightness on the floor and there is not much different I could notice — except after everyone left and the floor lighting was turned off.

So maybe this kind of lighting was designed to make us loose our realization of time and let us focus more on our work and be more productive? Even though, I think the sunlight could effect overall lighting quality more on the sunny days but you still need to get the seats near the windows. And this lead me to some rough concept for the lamp project that I want to make a lamp that could help you with time realization, or somehow related to our overall environment.

Light Observation

This photo was taken in the early morning from my window in the room facing east on a very sunny day. The sun was still not fully rise and cast shadows over the buildings on 9th Avenue. Though, the sunlight that was not blogged by the buildings was shining through 49th street created a light path that look like a golden carpet.( — which is actually kinda perfect for theater district. :D ) This light path also gave a shiny glossy touch to any objects in its way or passing by. And the strong brightness of the sun also boosted the color of the objects in this light path and make the color look very tense.
